Best Seasons for Helambu Trekking:

From March to May and September till early December months during springtime as well on autumn and pre-winter seasons.

March to May pleasant walks with much sunshine and enough daylights for views of snow-capped peaks, this is the time in spring when wild-flowers are in full bloom especially rhododendron of various species from trees to bushes with other bright flowers, makes this trek more interesting and exciting.

The area around the high hills of Helambu located north of Kathmandu, lovely and enchanting during springtime when wild-flowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species with different colors.  

During spring times, days are clear from morning till late afternoon, can get cloudy sometimes with chances of snow on high elevation, morning and night times much cold where temperatures drop.

September to December during autumn/fall and pre-winter season most days are crystal clear from morning till afternoon but short daylights due to autumn and winter and much colder in the morning and night times as well in shades, and away from sun lights.

Introduction:

Helambu Trekking, a wonderful country walk that takes you around North East from Kathmandu valley towards beautiful and scenic areas of Helambu.

Helambu one of the least ventured region by the main flow of trekkers that makes this journey special as the walk takes you into interesting farm villages festooned with Buddhist religious symbols and monuments in the harmony of local immense culture.

The area around Helambu which is close to the eastern sides of Langtang Himal and located right beneath the massive peaks of Jugal Himal with famous Dorji Lakpa, Gyachu Khang, and Gaurishankar Himal.

A short adventure of a week duration time frame where all age-group of travelers including family, school, and college groups can join in this Helambu trekking a perfect holiday to observe local interesting culture in the shade of high snow-capped peaks.

Where altitude is not a big problem on this lovely and enjoyable treks but takes you to steep climb and long descend for some days but more or less walking on pleasant winding scenic trails with superb views. 

Helambu Trekking begins from Kathmandu with a short drive to the city outskirt to reach northeast at the end of the valley rim to start walks with climb into beautiful areas of Sundarijal to reach a high scenic ridge at Chisapani offers spectacular sunrise over an array of Himalayan Central and mid-eastern peaks.

From Chisapani on a nice scenic trail walking over high ridges with dramatic views of beautiful landscapes with tiers of rolling green hills and valleys overlooking high snow-capped peaks of Langtang and Jugal Himal towards north direction.

 As walks progress entering into Helambu area from the villages of Gul Bhanjyang and Kutumsang at above 2,000 m high as the air gets cooler and fresh as the route takes you around farmland and within an enchanting forest of tall rhododendron and pine tree lines to reach on the highest spot of the adventure at Tharepati Hilltop.

The high ridge of Tharepati at 3, 597 m offers a stunning panorama of the high towering mountain range towards the north and then walk takes you in the heart of Helambu at Tarke-Gyang village.

Tarke Gyang an attractive and impressive village populated by a small group of ethnic Hyalmo tribes which is closely related to Sherpa and Tamang people with similar culture and religion of Buddhism.

At Tarke Gyang and Sermathang the two major villages of Helambu with ample time to explore around the lovely villages with a visit of an old monastery enriched with ancient religious idols with bright spectacular work of arts.

 Enjoying time around nice areas and villages of Helambu and observing the fascinating cultures of Hyalmo people then our journey comes to an end taking an exciting drive towards low warm farm country then reaching at Kathmandu, after a marvelous experience and wonderful time in Helambu Trekking.

Day to Day Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu airport 1,320 m transfer to hotel.
Reach Kathmandu via various international airlines where our staff receives you with transport to the hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city within easy reach to its shops and restaurants. Check into your rooms and after getting refreshed from jet-lag join at the hotel lobby for group briefing regarding do’s and don’ts, local culture, and with detailed information on Helambu trekking. Evening enjoy group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurants and get the taste of local cuisine with a folk cultural show of various parts of Nepal.

In Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
In Kathmandu full day for optional sightseeing tour at places of great interest, as Kathmandu and adjoining cities steeped with World Heritage Sites, on this day with time for trek preparation.

Drive to Sundarijal and trek to Chisapani 2,194 m- 04 hrs walks.
Morning short drive east of Kathmandu to reach the starting point of the trek at Sundarijal, located northeast of Kathmandu valley, from here walk begins with a climb to Chisapani, as trail meander towards the entrance of Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. From here steep climb into farm Tamang tribal villages at Mul-Kharka as walk heads higher to scenic ridge after walking into a lovely forest of oaks, pines, firs, and rhododendron to reach at Chisapani for first overnight stop on the high hills of the Himalaya. Chisapani a small village perched on a high ridge just north of Kathmandu valley, offers a great panorama of the Himalayan range of peaks with Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang with Jugal Himal towards eastern mountains, morning best time for stunning views of sunrise over Himalayan peaks.

Trek to Gul Bhanjyang 2,140 m - 05 hrs.
Morning at the earliest catch a striking sunrise over an array of snowcapped mountain range, after breakfast descend to the nice farm village Pati Bhanjyang populated with Hindu Brahman and Chettries. From this lovely area, the walk continues with a climb on series of steep switchbacks to reach at Chipling at 2,170 m high with a possible lunch stop, after a refreshing stop walk to the upper end of the village as the path meanders to steep climb of 200 meter walking on a stone pave steps to reach on top Jhogin Danda / Hill. Enjoy surrounding grand views then descent into a forest towards a large Chorten (a Buddhist religious monument) to end our wonderful day walks at Gul Bhanjyang, dominated by Tamang tribes situated within the Helambu area as well on route to holy Gosainkund.

Trek to Tharepati 3, 597 m via Kutumsang - 05 hrs.
From Gul Bhanjyang village, morning with a steep climb into the cool shade of beautiful rhododendron forest as walk meanders through some cattle herder’s shelters and grazing land to reach a hill at 2,580 meter high. The top of the hill called Yurin Danda a scenic ridge offers marvelous views of Langtang and Jugal Himal with rolling hills, walk down at Magen Goth located on a huge green meadow, with few tea-shops. From this lovely spot climb into the cool forest within wild-flower strewn meadows and then cross over a stream with last short steep climb to reach the overnight stop at Tharepati and the highest spot of the adventure at 3,597 meters. At the top enjoy a panorama of Langtang and Jugal Himal range of peaks with Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, Langshisa, Numbur, and many others, Tharepati a small settlement with several tea-house and simple lodges, located on route to Helambu and Gosainkund.

Trek to Melamche-Gaon 2,530 m -05 hrs.
From Tharepati catching morning grand views of snow-capped peaks with long downhill into the dense forest of rhododendron and pine tree lines to enter within inner Helambu valley. As the walk continues to cross a small stream over Chhyadi Khola on a suspension bridge, then head towards lovely Hyalmo village at Melamche-Gaon for an overnight stop at the height of 2,530 m located within a beautiful coniferous forest.

Trek to Tarke-Gyang 2,550 m -04 hrs.
Today a short morning walk to reach a main village of Hyalmo at Tarke-Gyang as the route descend into the forest to cross over Malemche Khola (Stream) to cross over a suspension bridge and then climb for an hour or more to reach at attractive and most charming village of Tarke Gyang, the major hub and largest village around Helambu area. Tarke-Gyang, the main village and home to the smallest group of hill tribes of Nepal the Hyalmo people, afternoon enjoy visiting around the lovely village with a tour into the old and largest monastery of the Helambu area. Tarke-Gyang, the major hub of the Hyalmo tribe follows similar culture and traditions to Sherpa and Tamang of the Buddhism religion.

Trek to Sermathang 2,693 m - 04 hrs.
After a pleasant, enjoyable time at Tarke Gyang village, our journey continues as morning walk heads on nice pleasant paths entering into lovely woods as route takes to another lovely village at Ganyul en route to Sermathang. The walk continues with the visit of an interesting Gompa (monastery), then reach at Sermathang, a lovely and interesting village with free afternoon at leisure to explore its ancient monastery with views of Jugal Himal.

Trek, drive to Kathmandu via Melamche Bazaar 846 m -05 hrs.
Today our wonderful trek comes to an end after walking a short distance and then taking a drive on an exciting dirt road with long winding downhill to reach warmer low farm country and into a town at Melamche Bazaar. From here our drive continues to reach a good road then with ups towards scenic town at Dhulikhel, a place for lovely views and panorama of Himalayan peaks after a brief stop at an old town at Dhulikhel, an hour of good drive brings you into hustle and bustle city life in Kathmandu. Then check into your hotels, rest of the afternoon at leisure for individual activities with group farewell dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurants with Folk culture programs to entertain you.

International departure for homeward bound.
Enjoying great wonderful adventure and experience in Nepal with exciting memorable time on ‘Helambu Trekking’, and on your last day in Nepal, our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for your flight back home or to the next port of call.
