Best Seasons for Langtang Valley- Gosainkund Trekking:

From March to May and September till early December months during springtime as well on autumn and pre-winter seasons.

March to May pleasant walks with much sunshine and enough daylights for views of snow-capped peaks, this is the time in spring when wild-flowers are in full bloom especially rhododendron of different species from trees to bushes with other bright flowers, makes this trek more interesting and exciting.

The area around Langtang Valley in springtime when wild-flowers are in seasonal bloom especially the rhododendron of various species and different colors.  

During Spring times, days are clear from morning till late afternoon, can get cloudy sometimes with chances of snow on high elevation, morning and night times much cold where temperatures drop (not adding extra wind-chill factor).

September to December during autumn/fall and pre-winter season most days are crystal clear from morning till afternoon but short daylights due to autumn and winter and much colder with freezing temperatures in the morning and night times as well in shades, away from sunlight (not adding extra wind-chill factor).

Introduction:

Langtang Valley and Gosainkund Trekking, a great opportunity for interested adventurers and trekkers where one can visit and explore both the best beautiful areas of Langtang Himal range from North West to East with ever-present views of high massive snow-capped peaks of the Central Himalaya.

Adventure first takes you to visit towards a wide-open country at Kyanjin within scenic Langtang valley enclosed by an array of high mountain ranges and then heading towards our next highlight to the holy glacial pond at Gosainkund, a famous pilgrimage spot for Hindu religion.

Langtang Valley and Gosainkund Trekking begins with an interesting overland journey heading north-west from the city of Kathmandu to reach around rural hill farm villages around the district of Rasuwa within the Langtang Himal region.

The first section of the adventure takes you into a deep river gorge covered with mixed vegetation of rain and coniferous forest where elusive and endangered Red Panda and other mountain mammals are often seen on walks.

The walk takes you through nice farm villages of Tamang the hill tribes of Central Himalaya and Langtang Himal region as the route enters into spectacular valley at Kyanjin, also called as Kyanjin Gompa (Gompa for monastery).

In past, early days a small monastery use to exist on top of a rocky moraine close to Langtang Lirung glacier, but due to the movement of glaciers and rock falls, the small chapel or monastery was wiped out from its original spot.

Enjoy glorious views of a high mountain range from Kyanjin and around its scenic view-point hills, from here our adventure takes you to our next destinations walking on the same route for few days and then taking a high trail to reach at holiest of all holy spot in Gosainkund.

At Gosainkund marvel great scenery of surrounding high rocky and snow-clad peaks that surround the beautiful glacial pond of Gosainkund, this holy spot in early days where 108 ponds existed, at present, there are less than a dozen.

Gosainkund regarding as a sacred spot for all Hindu religion wherein the month of August in full moon, a colorful and big festival takes place thousands of pilgrims’ visits for worship and prayer as well taking a holy dip and a bathe in the icy pond.

From the holy Gosainkund Pond area enjoying a pleasant and interesting time our journey continues heading for a steep climb to cross the highest point of the adventure over Gosainkund Pass, also called as East Laraubinaya-La at the height of 4,610 m and 15,126 feet high.

On reaching the tallest spot rewards you with a stunning panorama of rolling green hills and views of towering snow-clad peaks towards north-west and east direction.

Enjoying great scenery where long descend takes you at the base of Gosainkund pass to reach back into green forested areas towards Helambu areas, as walk leads on high scenic ridge facing awesome views of peaks.

Adventure continues walking through a nice impressive hill farm village where you can witness interesting local culture and custom then reach at scenic view-point of Chisapani offers stunning sunrise and sunset over a range of Himalayan mountain ranges.

With last overnight and enjoyable scenic views at Chisapani hilltop slowly our walks take you down at beautiful Sundarijal and its town where our walks end taking a drive back into hustle and bustle city life on completing our marvelous adventure and experience on Langtang Valley and Gosainkund Trekking.   

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: On arrival at Kathmandu airport 1,320 m then transfer to the hotel.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,350 m - 06 hrs.             

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3, 307 m-06 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin 3, 800 m- 04 hrs.

Day 07: Rest-Day for leisure scenic hike and short excursion.

Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,350 m - 06 hrs.  

Day 09: Trek to Upper / Thulo Syabru 2,115 m -05 hrs. 

Day 10: Trek to Sing Gompa / Chandanbari 3,255 m - 05 hrs.

Day 11: Trek to Gosainkund 4,381 m / 14,375 ft - 05 hrs.

Day 12: To Ghopte Odar 3,565 m crossing Gosainkund Pass / Laurabina-La 4,610 m / 15,126 feet high- 07 hrs.

Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang 2,440 m - 06 hrs. 

Day 14: Trek to Chisapani 2,150 m via Gul Bhanjyang - 06 hrs. 

Day 15: Trek to Sundarijal -03 hrs with an hour drive to Kathmandu. 

Day 16: International departure for homeward bound.

Day to Day Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu airport 1,320 m transfer to hotel.
Reach Kathmandu via various international airlines where our staff receives you with transport to the hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city within easy reach to its shops and restaurants. Check into your rooms and after getting refreshed from jet-lag join at the hotel lobby for group briefing regarding do’s and don’ts, local culture, and with detailed information on Langtang valley and Gosainkund trekking. Evening enjoy group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurants and get the taste of local cuisine with a folk cultural show of various parts of Nepal.

In Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
In Kathmandu full day for optional sightseeing tour at places of great interest, as Kathmandu and adjoining cities steeped with World Heritage Sites, on this day with time for trek preparation.

Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.
Morning check out from the hotel for trek departure to Langtang Valley as drive leads beyond Kathmandu valley to reach cooler alpine hills on leaving the warm areas of Nuwakott to reach at Langtang Himal area in Rasuwa district. As the journey heads through Dhunche, the headquarter town of Rasuwa is located within the Langtang Mountain region, inhabited by Tamang people the hill tribes of Central Himalaya. From Dhunche drive continues with descend on a long winding road to reach at Syabrubesi village for the first overnight stop around Langtang Himalaya.

Trek to Lama Hotel 2,350 m - 06 hrs.
The adventure begins with a pleasant walk to cross over the Bhote Kosi River that flows from Langtang Himal and Tibet mountains, after crossing a bridge climb starts heading into smaller farm villages with tended terraced fields, as the walk continues to enter the cool shade of the coniferous forest. Covered with dense tall rhododendron-magnolia-oaks and pines trees with some bamboo thickets, as the walk enters into a river gorge to reach Lama Hotel for an overnight stop, a small nice settlement in the middle of a lovely forest surrounding with several lodges for trekkers.

Trek to Langtang village 3, 307 m - 06 hrs.
From Lama Hotel, the morning walk heads upstream following Langtang River that later joins with Bhote Kosi and into Trisuli River downstream, as the walk continues within dense forest to reach a nice pleasant spot at Ghoretabela for a possible lunch stop, a nice place with some lodges around with Langtang national park warden check post. Enjoy a refreshing stop and the afternoon walk takes you a dense thick forest to reach at Langtang village, situated the end of a river gorge, once a lovely farm village before it was destroyed by the 2015 huge earthquake but slowly coming back to normal. At Langtang for overnight stop with time to explore the newly built villages from the destruction of past natural calamities.

Trek to Kyanjin 3, 800 m - 04 hrs.
After overnight at Langtang village morning starts with a short steep climb to reach a wide-open field into a valley encountering the Buddhist religion “mani (prayer) wall”, as the route leads further northeast to reach into a wide-open valley of Langtang at Kyanjin. Kyanjin a moderate size settlement with many good lodges for travelers located amid scenic and beautiful Langtang Valley at above 3, 800 m the highest spot of the adventure. At Kyanjin check into a nice cozy lodge with rooms facing great views of Langtang Lirung rises at 7,000 m high with its massive icefall which is at close distance from the lodge at Kyanjin.

Rest day for acclimatization and hike.
A rest day at Kyanjin on the highest spot of the journey, where one can enjoy hike up at great scenic views point hills of Tsego-Ri or on top Kyanjin Ri adding more heights at above 4,700 m. The hilltops offers fantastic panorama of Langtang and Ganesh Himal (7,405 m), with Langtang Lirung (7,234 m), Ghengu Liru (Langtang II at 6,571 m), Kimshun (6,745 m) and Shalbachum(6,918 m), Chimsedang, Naya-Kanga or Ganja Chuli (5,846 m), Gangchempo, Tilman's beautiful Fluted Peak extends east towards Jugal Himal and ends towards far eastern horizon around the peak of Dorje Lakpa (6,980 m). Views also include some peaks of Tibetan sides, which is just beyond Langtang Himal that forms the barrier between Nepal and Tibet / China.

Trek to Lama Hotel 2, 350 m - 06 hrs.
After a marvelous time at Kyanjin, head back on long downhill retracing the journey back on the same scenic trail to reach at Lama-Hotel for an overnight stop amid forest surroundings.

Trek to Thulo / Upper Syabru 2,118 -05 hrs.
From Lama Hotel, short descend to cross over a raging river as our route diverts towards northeast direction on the trail to holy Gosainkund, the walk takes you into a bamboo forest and a small place named as bamboo. After a short rest climb leads you to cross over the old landslide section to reach our overnight stop at Thulo Syabru which means a bigger, a village located on a high ridge with an old monastery.

Trek to Sing Gompa (Chandanbari) 3,254 m - 05 hrs.
With a pleasant overnight halt at Thulo or Upper Syabru, the adventure continues to reach our next destination as the morning route leads to a steep climb on leaving the village monastery. As uphill walk continues heading past farmland facing grand views of Ganesh, Manaslu, Langtang, and Annapurna Himalaya mountain range, as climb leads further high then enter into a cool shade of forest area than on a nice winding path to end the day trek on reaching Sing Gompa also called Chandanbari for overnight stop, a small nice place with an old monastery.

Trek to Gosainkund 4,381 m - 05 hrs.
The morning starts with a climb facing marvelous views of Langtang, Ganesh-Himal range, as far towards Manaslu and Annapurna range in the far western horizon, as the climb gets steeper reaching around smaller shades serving as tea-shops and lodge. The last final leg of the climb reaches you high above on leaving tree lines for short rhododendron, juniper bushes, as the trail meanders higher to reach on top Laurabina (this is the place where pilgrims leave behind walking sticks after completing their pilgrimage at Gosainkund hence the name Laraubinaya a place of walking poles or sticks) From the top descend as the walk takes you past Saraswati and Bhairab Kund / pond and then with a short climb to reach at famous and holy Gosainkund within its glacial pond, where devotees bathe and a holy dip to relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes.Holy Gosainkund, a renowned pilgrimage site for Hindu followers, where a festival called ‘Janai Purnima’ (Full Moon) takes place each year in August, dates fixed from the Hindu Luna calendar, this is the spot where thousands of pilgrims throng the sacred lake for worship and holy bathe.

Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,565 m crossing Gosainkund Pass / Laurabina-La 4,610 m / 15,126 feet high- 07 hrs.
On visiting with overnight at holy Gosainkund, morning walk on the bank of Gosainkund pond, where climb takes you past another small glacial pond of Surjakund then steep up to reach on the highest point of the adventure at Gosainkund pass or East Laurabina-La. From the top enjoying fantastic views of dramatic landscapes with snow-capped peaks, then walk on the long downhill to the base of the pass at Phedi (bottom) a places with few small tea-shops and shades here for possible lunch stop. After lunch or having refreshing stops walk continue heading east towards the Helambu area back into the green vegetation of junipers, rhododendron and then reach our overnight stop at Ghopte (means a place with an overhanging rock cave).

Trek to Kutumsang 2,445 m via - 06 hrs.
From Ghopte rest of the walk is much easier with short to Tharepati at 3,597 m. a nice scenic top offers grand views of Jugal Himal with Ganesh, Langtang, and Manaslu in the west direction. After a short stop descend to a place called Mange-Ghot within a nice grassy field, from here walk takes you into farm areas on reaching at Kutumsang for an overnight stop, a village with mixed hill people Sherpa, Hyalmo and Tamang hill tribes.

Trek to Chisapani 2,195 m via Gul Bhanjyang 2,125 m - 07 hrs.
After Kutumsang slowly our adventure comes to an end with the last longest day walk to reach at Chisapani, morning route on a winding trail with few short ups and much downhill walking past rural farm areas to reach at nice village of Gul-Bhanjyang placed on a ridge top. After a refreshing stop walk leads on a gradual trail past farm villages towards Pati Bhanjyang village, from here short climb towards our last overnight halt at scenic village Chisapani, located north of Kathmandu Valley eastern rim, a great place for beautiful sunrise and sunsets over range of peaks

Trek to Sundarijal -03 hrs with an hour drive to Kathmandu.
Today our last trek of the adventure, as morning leads you downhill into cool and lovely forested area to reach around farm villages of Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang with views of Kathmandu Valley. From here descend to Sundarijal (meaning beautiful water) a lovely spot covered in a nice forest with fresh streams. On reaching the very bottom of a hill at Sundarijal farm town where our walk completes and then taking a short drive of an hour to reach back at Kathmandu after a great wonderful adventure on Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkund Trekking.

International departure for homeward bound.
Enjoying great wonderful adventure and experience in Nepal with exciting memorable time on ‘Langtang Valley and Gosainkund Trekking’, and on your last day in Nepal, our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for your flight back home or to the next port of call.
