Introduction:

Upper Mustang Trekking one of the most exclusive walk that leads you to high country of Nepal Far Western Himalaya which falls on old Trans Himalayan Salt Trade route of Nepal to Tibet through the trail of Upper Mustang and beyond. Upper Mustang Trekking with Nepal High Point offers you enjoyable adventure where you can immerse within beautiful scenery of mountains and unique dramatic landscapes and exploring local cultures of ancient custom and heritage of both Buddhism and old Bon religions of pre Buddhism that still exists around high and remote western Himalaya of Nepal. Starting with scenic short flight to Jomsom from beautiful touristic city Pokhara and then heading into high vast country of Upper Mustang within an extension of Tibetan plateau where culture and  raditions are similar of Mustang people with Tibetans custom. As walk heads further higher terrain past nice villages of Kagbeni, Chele, Gami and Charang to enter into former walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang a historical town- village where you can explore with interesting and exciting time around this medvial period areas with historical background, where Mustang Raja (king) ruled the region till last two decades. After an enjoyable time visiting its interesting traditional villages and impressive monasteries as well tour of late Mustang Raja palace resident, then head back to Jomsom taking the same scenic route for flight to Pokhara, with memorable and marvelous time in Upper Mustang Trekking with Nepal High Point Trekking great services.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome then transfer to your hotel in centre of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed in your rooms join for group briefing regarding your stay in Nepal, where guides will provide information of the trek-local lodge-hotels- culture and other necessary information related with trekking.

Day 02

In Kathmandu trek preparations with optional tour.
In Kathmandu, a free day preparation for Upper Mustang trekking with optional sightseeing around Kathmandu, as the valley is steeped with many world heritage sites and important monuments and religious-historical sites.

Day 03

Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m (30 mins on air) -06 hrs overland ride.
Morning after early breakfast transfer for a long drive of 5 to 6 hours of exciting drive to reach at scenic city in Pokhara, located Nepal Mid-West a warmer country but with incredible views of Annapurna Himalaya that reflects on its calm Begnas and Phewa Lakes. On reaching at Pokhara then transfer to a nice hotel by the lakeside of Phewa Lake, with to wander around the lake shore full of stores, shops, restaurants and hotels. (For interested people can take 30 minutes of scenic flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu).

Day 04

Morning flight to Jomsom 2,715 m and trek to Kagbeni 2,800 m - 04 hrs.
Early start from the hotel in Pokhara taking a short scenic flight to land at Jomsom ofy 22 mins facing grand views of Annapurna, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri range of mountains, on reaching at Jomsom a large headquarter town of Mustang district. First day walk of this marvelous begins from Jomsom walking on gentle path most of the day along Kali-Gandaki river valley. After few hours of good walk on the windy valley reaching at interesting village of Kagbeni from here on starts with strong Tibetan culture of Buddhism religion facing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri’s, Kagbeni the entry point to Restricted and former Forbidden Kingdom of Upper Mustang.

Day 05

Trek to Chele 3,050 m - 06 hrs.
From Kagbeni morning leads uphill to reach beneath a towering canyon into a gorge of Kaligandaki River, following the river upstream with grand views of amazing landscapes with red cliffs on both sides of the path, heading past few villages and hamlets towards a nice cultivated farm land at Tirigaon village. As walk leads over an interesting and picturesque cliff canyon of red colored erosion, continue trek around windswept valley for another few hours to reach at Tsele or Chele village for overnight stop, a moderate size village located by the Kaligandaki river valley.

Day 06

Trek to Syangbochen 3,800 m - 05 hrs.
With pleasant overnight at Chele village, journey continues with a climb to Gyakar village, within wide barren and arid terrain to reach Samar village, a lovely village along the route. After few stops as walk continues towards a small settlement of Bhena, and then leading to a steep uphill to Yamda La top at 3,860 meters a small pass, offering glorious views of Mustang wide valley including high peaks with Mt. Dhaulagiri mountain range. After an enjoyable stop with the striking views, descend all the way to Syangboche village for overnight stop.

Day 07

Trek to Ghami 3,520 m - 05 hrs.
After a pleasant and wonderful stop at Charang / Tsarang, morning with time to visit village old monastery here observe Buddhist prayer wheels propelled by fast flowing streams of water, after an interesting tour of the Gompa / monastery, walk continues to Ghami village with majestic views of dry and arid country with distant snow capped peaks and crossing a high ridge and downhill to a nice village at Ghami for overnight stop.

Day 08

Trek to Charang 3,560 m - 05 hrs.
Morning leads to cross over Ghami Khola (stream) and then following a long row of interesting Mani walls (holy prayer stone) to reach at Dhakmar village, after a short rest here, where good walk brings of another few hours brings you at overnight stop in Charang or Tsarang village. An attractive village encircled by large crops fields with buck wheat’s and barley the only crops that can be grown on this high elevation and cold climate, at Tsarang after getting organized in local lodge or guesthouse for overnight stop, with time to visit another monastery of Charang village.

Day 09

Trek to Lo-Manthang 3,840 m - 04 hrs.
Walking this morning to reach towards main highlights of the adventure heading higher side of Upper Mustang where Lo Manthang a former walled kingdom located. A short or a half day walk to reach to Lo Manthang for lunch and overnight stop, walk follows a gentle path and then crossing a steel bridge to reach at Marang village, from here the trail winds up to a ridge top to a Buddhist monument called Chorten with mani stones in between Charang and Lo Manthang, offers grand views of dramatic landscapes which is an extension of Tibetan plateau facing Nilgiri’s, Tilicho and Bhrikuti mountains. After a wonderful scenery walk leads to a climb over Lo La pass at above 3,950 meters high and then downhill to a stream with an hour walk to enter walled village / town of Lo Manthang and then into a nice lodge for overnight stops.

Day 10

At Lo-Manthang rest day to explore around.
An interesting and exciting place as well the highest overnight stop of the journey, morning after breakfast explore around important places and a worth a visit to the palace like fort, where all houses are of Tibetan style with strong influence and way of life also, visit through narrow lane and streets of the village. Lo-Manthang houses four major monasteries the Namgyal Gompa, Champa Lakhang (God House), Red Thubchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the great Entrance Hall.

Day 11

Trek to Dhakmar 3,820 m - 05 hrs.
From Lo-Manthang head back to Jomsom spending two nights with interesting and impressive time, walk on old trekking route past several farm houses and tended fields with few willow and poplars the only trees that survives in this barren terrain, a few hours trekking to Marang village on the same path and then avoiding the main trail to an old walking path all the way to our overnight stop at Dhakmar village after six hours of nice fine walks.

Day 12

Trek back to Syangbochen 3,800 m- 06 hrs.
After Dhakmar village, morning leads to retrace on the same path back towards Ghiling village crossing a bridge over Ghami Khola to Ghami village visit Geling monastery on route. As walk progress on loosing much elevation as journey heads towards Kaligandaki valley, and then with gradual uphill climb to reach at Syangboche village for overnight stop.

Day 13

Trek to Chusang 2,890 m - 06 hrs.
Morning walk leads towards Kaligandaki valley and then few hours climb over Yamda La small pass rewards you with great views of surrounding hills and valleys, then downhill to Bhena and Samar villages, and then follow a stream that leads through Gyakar to Chele villages and then ending our nice day walk at Chusang or Tsusang village.

Day 14

Trek back to Jomsom - 06 hrs for last night around Mustang.
From Chusang village walk comes to final end of the trip, as last day walk is quite long to Jomsom town, leading on gentle downhill following several villages and into a canyon with high red cliffs to reach at Kagbeni village. After a short rest stop with few hour of good walk on the valley floor brings you at Jomsom, at Jomsom in the comfort of nice and good lodges.

Day 15

Fly back to Pokhara 860 m with free afternoon at leisure.
Last day of the adventure completes taking morning short flight to reach at scenic Pokhara around warmer low areas of Nepal Mid West. Pokhara a charming place blessed with high Annapurna range of peaks with calm lakes of Phewa and Begnas, on landing at Pokhara airport transfer to hotel by the beautiful Phewa Lake, with time to explore around interesting streets of lake side.

Day 16

Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Having early breakfast where interesting drive brings you back in Kathmandu, as drive departs from Pokhara (either tourist coach or in private vehicles), as journey leads past many nice farm villages and town, from Mugling Bazaar following Trisuli River for sometimes, and then on winding uphill to reach into Kathmandu valley as well back to your respective hotels.

Day 17

Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.
Last day in the country of Himalayan wonders, after an amazing experience and wonderful memories of Upper Mustang trek with great services of Nepal High Point Trekking and its friendly guide, then depart from the hotel as per your flight time our staff transfers you to Kathmandu international airport for your home- ward flight or to next respective countries.
